Dr Rita Poon is a consultant surgeon at both Brisbane Waters Private and Gosford Private Hospitals with special interest and expertise in surgical oncology and the management of breast cancer, thyroid cancer, melanoma and sarcoma. After obtaining her medical degree in 1999 at the University of Sydney, Dr Poon completed her internship, residency and surgical training in Sydney hospitals before undertaking her specialty surgical training in the Gosford and Newcastle regions.
In 2009, she furthered her training as a Surgical Oncology Fellow at the Prince of Wales Hospital and then returned to the Central Coast as a consultant surgeon in 2010. Since then, she has continued to further her specialty skills and education in the fields of oncoplastic breast surgery at the Royal College of Surgeons England in London, the European School of Surgery in Paris and the European Institute of Oncology in Milan. As a result, she has developed a passion for oncoplastic breast surgery.
Dr Poon’s proud professional memberships include the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS), Founding member of Breast Surgeons of Australia and New Zealand (BreastSurg ANZ), General Surgeons Australia (GSA), and the Australia and New Zealand Breast Cancer Trials Group (ANZBCTG).
Dr Poon is a consultant surgeon for Breast Screen Australia, Clinical Champion for the DETECT training program and on the Medical Advisory Group for Reclaim Your Curves. Her special interest areas include:
