Dr James Thompson is an experienced robotic, laparoscopic, endoscopic and open urological surgeon. He completed a 6-year College of Surgeons accredited training program in all aspects of general urology.
He has specialty training in (and passion for) the treatment of prostate, bladder and kidney cancer using the latest robotic surgery techniques. He completed a fellowship in robotic prostate and bladder cancer surgery at University College London Hospital; he then received the rare honour of being appointed at UCLH as a consultant robotic prostate and bladder surgeon. In 2018, he returned to Sydney to bring home this sub-specialized cancer surgery skillset to the Australian community.

Dr Thompson has co-authored over 30 original research publications, book chapters and invited lectures in the field of urologic cancer. He is a regular reviewer for high-impact journals e.g. European Urology, Lancet Oncology and Journal of Urology. He is a co-investigator on several research trials (e.g. MRIAS, PRIMARY, DETECT and MAGNIFI) and multi-institutional research grants in the fields of MRI, PSMA, Combidex ferromagnetic MRI, active surveillance, focal therapy (including HIFU & nanoknife), robotic surgery, genetics, epi-genetics & radio-genomics.
